Throughout the New Testament when a person makes their own choice to become a follower of Jesus we see that they get baptized. Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Baptism does not save you, but it shows the world that you have already been saved. It is your public declaration that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and is a biblical command that demonstrates your love and obedience to Christ.

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”  Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:37-38 (NIV)
